Blood Red Skies: Air Strike! is a rules compendium that presents all of the rules from the original Blood Red Skies starter set and adds many new ones suitable for expanded air operations: ground and sea targets, bombing, strafing and torpedo attacks, defensive flak and terrain. Jet aircraft are introduced with the MiG Alley expansion and there is additional guidance for historic and competitive play.
The book includes seven entirely new scenarios for Blood Red Skies and re-presents the five existing ones to bring them in line with the new rules and player feedback.
Wing Commander is a compendium of additions and expansions for the Blood Red Skies game. Inside you’ll find advice for beginners, advice for designing your own scenarios, more rules to expand MiG Alley games, a short carrier war campaign, and a longer more expansive campaign that allows for narrative progression. Additionally, complete lists of plane statistics and their availability throughout the war are provided. Finally, the games author, Andy Chambers, provides full errata and answers to the most frequently asked questions.
A copy of the Blood Red Skies supplement Air Strike! is needed to use this book.

Jersey-born Philip Leroy Kirkwood won fame when he became an ‘Ace in a day’ during furious aerial combat around Okinawa in April 1945. As an aerial armada of Kamikaze aircraft attempted to overwhelm the US fleet Kirkwood personally accounted for six enemy aircraft, often diving into the flak from the Navy vessels under attack in order to prevent the Kamikazes making their final dive. Kirkwood was awarded the Navy cross for his heroism on that day and survived the war with a total of twelve victories.

Tsuboi was a graduate of the Naval Reserve Aviation Group’s 9th Class in January 1943. He began his combat flying career with the 934th Kokutai flying A6M2-N floatplane fighters in the Dutch East Indies. Tsuboi also saw limited action flying missions in the N1K1 Kyofu before joining the 302nd Kokutai late in 1944. Between December 1944 and February 1945 Tsuboi rose to become the first and only Ace in the J2M Raiden, credited with five and a half victories including two B29 Superfortresses and four F6F Hellcats (one shared). Tsuboi was killed by return fire from a Superfortress in April 1945.

Kaneyoshi Muto scored his first aerial victory in China in December 1937 and became an Ace by the end of the following year. At the opening of the Second World War Muto fought across the Philippines, the Solomon Islands, the Java Sea and New Guinea. He flew alongside Saburo Sakai at Iwo Jima, who called him ‘the toughest fighter pilot in the Imperial Navy’. In December 1944 Muto was sent to the Japanese Home islands to defend them against B29 Superfortress attacks, flying the powerful N1K-J Shiden. He finally fell in combat in July 1945 with between 28 and 35 victories including four B29s.
